Heather is a native of Roseville, MI, a suburb of Detroit, MI. She received her BA in Environmental Science from Alma College in Alma, MI in May of 2006. Heather began her graduate studies at Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs during the fall of 2006. She will complete her degree, Masters of Public Affairs with concentrations in Environmental Policy and Policy Analysis, in May of 2008. When she is living in Bloomington, IN, Heather works for Stonebelt, ARC, assisting clients with developmental disabilities with the everyday tasks of life.
During the summer of 2007, Heather completed an internship with NCSE. In addition to working on Encyclopedia of Earth, Heather also completed a research project to aid NCSE's effort to create an international interdisciplinary association for environmental scientists. She also provided administrative support in NCSE's effort to create a Council of Energy Researchers and Educators (CERE).
Heather's academic interests include: sustainable agriculture, sustainable housing, renewable energy, economics, and toxics. Heather has thoroughly studied issues associated with Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) and agricultural subsidies, completing a seminar and an independant study about these topics. Heather's non-academic interests include sewing, reading (mostly non-fiction), swimming, and going to art museums.
